About Custom Model and Marine Projects
- Custom Models and Marine Projects brings together a number of projects and areas I've been developing for a few years. Through my involvement in the 2010s as a contributor to the New Media Consortia's Horizon Reports I became aware of the potential that 3D printing could offer to a range of sectors and applications.
- I started 3D printing to develop figures for some of my scale models, but soon produced a number of 3D printed boats and fittings, initially for my own use I found I was able to supply others with boats, fittings, rigs, sails etc.
- As well as building and restoring scale models I race various model yacht classes such as DF65, DF95, 6 metre and Footy. When I saw the MiniMax yacht, developed by Brett McCormack in New Zealand, I was immediately taken by the simplicity of the design, its excellent sailing ability and see it as a way of encourage more people to get into the sailing of model yachts.
